Amid the sharp decline in daily coronavirus cases, the Madhya Pradesh government on Tuesday announced that all the COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted. Announcing the withdrawal of curbs, the MP administration announced that night curfew would be lifted from the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday in view of the decline in infections.

“The situation of coronavirus infection in the state is under control now. COVID-19 positivity rate has come down to less than 1 per cent. Keeping these circumstances in view, night curfew is being lifted from today midnight,” MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s office said in a tweet today.

The chief minister cautioned the public about being complacent against the contagious virus and appealed to them to continue to adopt COVID appropriate behaviour as the governmnet is lifting the COVID restrictions.

CM Chouhan asked the people to not be “careless” while celebrating Holi, Rangpanchami and other upcoming festivals.

The MP governmnet had imposed a night curfew in December 2021 amid a rise in coronavirus cases due to the Omicron variant.

In view of the decline COVID infections across the country, the Union Health Ministry on February 16 asked states and union territories to end or amend the restrictions.

While asking to amend/withdraw the curbs, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan wrote a letter to chief secretaries and chief administrators of all states and UTs stating that a sustained downward trend is being witnessed in the nationwide case trajectory.

“Presently, as the case trajectory across the nation is showing a sustained downward trend, it will be useful if states/UTs review and amend/do away with the additional restrictions so imposed after considering the trend of new cases, active cases and positivity within the state and UT,” Bhushan said.
